Dear Nickle School Parents and Guardians, Students, and Staff,

I am pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Randy Lewis as the next Principal of Nickle School.

Mr. Lewis is an experienced educational leader with 23 years of service with the Calgary Board of Education. Throughout his career, he has served in a variety of leadership roles in both middle and senior high schools. His experience as an administrator at Dr. E.P. Scarlett High School and, most recently, as Principal of A.E. Mr. Lewis is looking forward to joining the Nickle School community for the 2026–2027 school year.  His official start date will be August 26, 2026.

A greeting from Principal Lewis is included below. Please join me in warmly welcoming Mr. Randy Lewis to Nickle School.

I would also like to extend my sincere thanks to Acting Principal Rolf Haensel for his leadership, dedication, and support of the Nickle School community throughout this year.

Respectfully,

Dear Nickle School Students, Parents, and Staff,

I am thrilled to extend my warmest greetings to you as the new principal of Nickle School. It is a great honour to step into this role and to lead such a wonderful school community.

My career path of over 20 years has included stops in the Math and Science departments of Tom Baines School and Midsun School, the Science department of Dr. E.P. Scarlett High School, serving as Assistant Principal at Dr. E.P. Scarlett for 6 years and most recently the main office of A.E. Cross School where I served that school community as Principal for the past 3 years.

I am excited to meet with students, staff, and parents to learn about what makes Nickle such a fantastic place of learning.

Collaboration is key within my leadership principles, and it will be great to get everybody’s thoughts on how Nickle can grow and thrive in the future. I am eager to build strong relationships with all members of the Nickle School community to create an environment where student’s achievement and well-being are at the forefront.

I will work to ensure that students walking into Nickle School learn in a culture that values inclusivity, celebrates all learners, and promotes a sense of belonging for all members of the community.

As a lifelong Calgarian, this appointment is a full circle moment for me, as I had the pleasure of attending Nickle School during my junior high school days.

I look forward to engaging with the Nickle school community in the fall of 2026.  Until then, I hope that you have a wonderful remainder of the school year and a restful, relaxing and fun summer break.

Sincerely,

Randy Lewis
