Attendance Line: 403-777-7720 Option 1
Please be sure to call or email with your child’s absence or if your child will be late for school. It is helpful if parents can be quite specific regarding the reason for the late or absence.

Absences
If students are going to be absent from school, we ask that parents call the school and leave a message on our attendance line (403-777-7720 - Option 1) or email us at nickleattendance@cbe.ab.ca. Please ensure a message has been received by 9:00 A.M. for the morning or all day absences/lates or 2:00 P.M. for afternoon absences/lates. Parents will be contacted by email and/or text if no call is received.
Students who are absent from school for any reason are responsible for all work assigned or studied during their absence. If absences are excessive, it may be necessary to develop an Attendance Improvement Plan and/or refer the student to the Attendance Officer.
Lates
Students who are late to school for any reason must report to the office to sign in. An excused late is defined by being late to school because of an appointment, funeral, etc. Missing alarms, accidentally sleeping in, etc. are unexcused lates. Parents can call the attendance line to excuse the late or the student may bring in the appointment card. All other lates are considered to be unexcused. Students who have excessive lates or absences may be dealt with at the Administrative level. This may also include students who are continually late between classes.
Leaving for Appointments
Students who need to leave school early for appointments must be signed out by a parent or guardian or bring a note from their parent(s) and take this note to the office at the appropriate time. Students may not leave the school without checking with the office. If a student becomes ill at school, they are to come to the office and phone a parent. Students will not be allowed to leave school without parental/guardian consent.
Extended Absence / Family Vacations
If you plan on going on an extended vacation please have the student come to the office and let the staff know approximately 3 - 4 days before you leave. This will give students enough time to see all of their teachers and find out about work they will be missing in class. It also gives us a heads up for the attendance absences.
It is expected that students will catch up on missed material and will submit assignments due during the absence either before leaving or within one week after returning.
Attendance Expectations at the CBE
Regular and punctual attendance is foundational to student learning, academic achievement and long-term success. The CBE Administrative Regulation 6020 - Attendance of Students applies to all students, and outlines the responsibilities for students, parents and school staff.
