Student Learning & Classes
Nickle staff returned to school last week and focused on continuing teaching and learning with students. Teachers and admin also worked on re-scheduling missed activities and events, including school retakes (November 24), field trips and basketball games. Please check and subscribe to the Nickle Calendar; and refer to learning updates from teachers.
Updated Timetable
Students received their updated timetables last week and adjustments were made for students in the office. Some of our students were enrolled in new sections of CTF classes offered by our newest staff member, Ms. Barona; and by Mr. Olson who has shifted to a full-time teacher.
Remembrance Day Reflection
Last week, our staff made the decision to shift the assembly portion of the November 8 Remembrance Day Assembly to a school-wide virtual assembly over the eleven o’clock hour. Classes gathered with teachers in the smaller settings and were able to reflect on the significance of the important day, remembering the sacrifices and costs made for the peace and freedom of others, and to show respect to veterans and active service members.
Special Thanks to Ms. Storey, Ms. Craig, Mr. Jenkins and Ms. Milner for creating the reflective presentation that honoured Veterans and the military traditions inherent in Remembrance Day.
Nickle Athletics Update
The *CBE provided guidelines for adjusting the remaining fall season of play, which included basketball. Administrators and coaches collaborated with schools in their leagues to re-schedule games. Thank you to Mr. Rae for leading the re-scheduling of practices and games for all four of our teams (Junior and Senior Girls and Boys).
*All athletic events scheduled from January to June 2026 will proceed as planned.
Weather Changes & Relaxed Entry Reminder
As the weather turns colder, we remind families that doors open for the relaxed entry at 8:05 am. Classes begin at 8:15 am. (Calgary weather can change quickly! Please ensure your child(ren) are dressed appropriately for the conditions).
Lunchtime Reminders
Grade 6 Students will continue following the structured CBE lunch supervision program with eating indoors in their classrooms and going outside for recess over the second half of the lunch block (weather permitting).
We regularly monitor weather conditions and adjust plans accordingly for all students. Nickle School follows the Calgary Board of Education (CBE) guidelines for inclement weather. For example, if the temperatures is below -20°C with windchill, students remain indoors, with supervision, for both eating and recess.
Grades 7–9 Students:
There will be a continuation of the Nickle Lunch Routines from last year. After the Fall Break, the lunch block will shift to an indoor eating portion where students are supervised on the main floor in designated areas. Students will go outside for the second half of the lunch block where there is on-campus supervision, or attend a club offered by Nickle staff.
Off-Campus Privileges continue: Students in Grades 7–9 may leave campus during lunch if they return on time and behave responsibly in the community.
Bathroom Access: Students will have access to school facilities during lunch. We encourage students to use the bathroom during the first half of the lunch block.
As a reminder, we ask that students or parents let their Homeroom teacher know if there is any reason they cannot go outside so they can be accommodated and supervised. More information on Clubs offered by Nickle Teachers will be coming.
Fall Break Reminder
There are no classes for students on November 10, 11, and 12. Classes resume on Thursday, November 13.
