Track and Field Success
On Monday, June 3, overwhelmingly, Nickle School had the most successful track and field divisional meet in at least the last dozen years – maybe ever! Our school won the overall combined team category, meaning that as a school, we won the overall meet! Here are the particular details from our winning team:
- Junior Combined First
- Junior Female First
- Junior Male First
- Intermediate Combined First
- Intermediate Female First
- Intermediate Male Second
- Senior Combined Fourth
- Senior Female Third
- Senior Male Fifth
Like any big undertaking, it was a complete team effort. Every student at Nickle contributed to our overall success, with their level of engagement, increases in everyone’s fitness, and the overall commitment students made throughout May to do their very best. Likewise, the meet at Foothills Athletic Park could not have gone as smooth without the effort of all the schools involved.
Throughout this school your students have worked hard to learn to push ourselves and their perceived physical limits. We have done hard workouts on Fridays, challenging warm ups throughout the week, and worked on skill building activities that have resulted in this success.
Thank you to our participants and volunteers.
Thanks for supporting our school and our physical education program.
Mr. Hawkins and Mr. Marks
Nickle School Portables
Alberta Education approved the demolition of three modular classrooms at Nickle School in March 2023. However, due to the high enrolment growth projected for this school, these modular units will be retained until they are no longer required.

IPP Information from Student Services
Year-end IPP will be sent home on Monday, June 10. You will receive a digital copy of your child’s IPP (if you have previously requested that method) or a printed copy that your child will bring home that day.
This final IPP of the year includes transition plans and recommendations for next year, as well as final updates on targets worked on this school year. These important sections will help ensure that students get back on track and continue to progress with their learning when school resumes in the fall. For students transitioning to a new school next year, Nickle staff will also have meetings with next year’s schools and students with an IPP will be highlighted for staff at the new school.
Please review the IPP document, then sign and return the signature page to the main office by Friday, June 14. Please keep the remainder of the IPP for your records.

Walking Field Trip (Fundraiser) – June 21
Friday, June 21 we are doing a walk for Chanie Wenjack with a goal of building a better community and raising enough money to help the Downey and Wenjack fund do the good things they do.
The Gord Downie and Wenjack fund provides access to education on the true history of Indigenous peoples in Canada.
Chanie Wenjack was a 12-year-old Indigenous boy who had been sent to Cecilia Jeffrey Indian Residential School in Kenora, Ontario. On Oct 16, 1966 Chanie Wenjack escaped and started his walk home (a 600 km trek). On Oct 23, 1966 Chanie took his last step beside the Canadian National Railway. He was not able to make it home, as he died of starvation and exposure. We walk together in hopes of completing his mission. We walk in hopes of raising awareness and money for the Downie and Wenjack fund. We walk to spread the truth about residential schools.
Help us reach our fundraising goal of $400 to work towards building a better cultural understanding and begin the path of reconciliation through awareness, education, and action.
The link provided below will be open for the next couple of weeks to give students and parents a chance to donate to the Downie and Wenjack fund. Please check it out. Every little bit helps.
