Hello Nickle families! As we head into the Thanksgiving long weekend, we would like to wish all of our families a wonderful and restful holiday. We hope you have the opportunity to reflect on the many things that bring gratitude to your lives.

At Nickle School, we are thankful for the partnership we share with our families. Your support, encouragement, and involvement play a critical role in your child's learning and contribute greatly to the success of our school community.

Thank you for all that you do. We wish you a Happy Thanksgiving and encourage everyone to take some time this weekend to celebrate and express gratitude for the people and experiences that enrich your lives.

Nickle Gives Back

Please see the advertisement below from our Grade 6 classes as they prepare for a field trip to Seed School later this fall.

Wildcats Physical Education

Grade 7-9 students need to be changed for phys ed class, that means changing into clothing that is different than the clothes they came to school in, shorts, jogging pants, tights or leggings and a shirt. Grade 6's need to be appropriately prepared with clothing that allows them to move freely. All grades need to have proper athletic footwear, no boots, crocs, flip flops or sandals. We are promoting a healthy lifestyle and part of that is promoting good hygiene. Students also need to be prepared to be outside or inside and come dressed for the weather, jogging pants, a sweater, hoodie, mitts and a hat would be appropriate for colder mornings when participating in outdoor activities.

Transportation Safety Reminders

Please see the document below regarding some safety reminders for drivers and pedestrians around Nickle School. There have been a few close calls between drivers and pedestrians around Nickle recently and we want to make sure that students are safe crossing the road in front of the school.

Healthy Hunger

Healthy Hunger is returning for the 2026-2027 school year with some new restaurants being included as well as some student favourites from years gone by. To see a full list of dates and restaurants, we encourage you to visit the Lunchtime link on the Nickle webpage. Families will need to create an account for their student on the Healthy Hunger webpage at healthyhunger.ca. The next Healthy Hunger of the school year will be Subway on Wednesday, October 14.

Video Surveillance Technology

Our school has a video surveillance system to help maintain a safe and secure environment at the school for students, staff and the public, and to help address vandalism and criminal activity on school property.

The video surveillance system is installed and reviewed in accordance with Administrative Regulation 1066. Personal information is collected under the authority of the Education Act and the Protection of Privacy Act (POPA), specifically section 10(1) and the Access to Information Act (ATIA).

This technology can be placed in areas such as the school parking lot, building entrances and exits, stairwells and hallways. This information is recorded and collected to help maintain a safe and secure environment in the school and on school property. The users of this information are the principal or designate and law enforcement personnel in the case of reported incidents that would require an investigation. Only authorized persons will review video surveillance information.

Inquiries concerning the video surveillance system, or the collection and use of recorded information may be made by contacting the school office.

An Important Message from the Nickle School Learning Commons

Welcome to the Nickle School Learning Commons—a place where students can read, learn, create, and socialize.

Our library collection includes a wide range of materials selected to be age-appropriate for our school population (ages 10–15). We are currently in the process of labeling resources that are most appropriate for students aged 13+ with the spine label shown below.

Because our Learning Commons offers a self-checkout option, staff are not able to monitor every item that students borrow. If you would prefer that your student not access materials labeled 13+, we encourage you to have a conversation with them so they understand your expectations.

Thank you for your support and cooperation as we work to ensure our Learning Commons remains a welcoming and appropriate space for all students.
