Dear Nickle Families,
Welcome to the 2025–26 school year at Nickle School! We are thrilled to welcome back our returning students and equally excited to greet those joining us for the first time. Together, we continue to grow as a vibrant and inclusive learning community.
This year, we are once again welcoming students from Mahogany and Auburn Bay as part of overflow enrollment from Lakeshore School. As a result, our Grade 6 and 7 populations have grown significantly, creating a dynamic and energetic atmosphere in our classrooms and hallways. With this growth comes opportunity — new friendships, new learning experiences, and new staff members who bring fresh perspectives and expertise to our school.
At Nickle, we are committed to nurturing the whole child. Our academic program includes core subjects — English Language Arts, Social Studies, Mathematics, Science, Physical Education, and Health and Wellness — alongside a rich selection of “option” courses in Fine Arts, Career and Technology Foundations (CTF), and Physical Education extensions such as Environmental and Outdoor Education and Sports Performance. We also offer a wide range of extracurricular activities in Athletics, Instrumental Music, and Drama to support student growth beyond the classroom.
Strong relationships are the foundation of our work. We value collaboration with families and believe that together, we can support every student’s success. This year, we are pleased to welcome several new educators to our team: Karen Burkell, Christine Selzler, Jonah Phillips and Graeme Olson.
We also celebrate the return of many dedicated staff members whose contributions continue to enrich our school community. A full list of our learning teams as of September 5, 2025, is included below.
Enrollment & Staffing Updates
As your principal, I am committed to transparency in sharing information about school planning, enrollment, and staffing. As many families are aware, our enrollment numbers have fluctuated daily due to ongoing callbacks and new registrations from Mahogany and Auburn Bay. These changes have impacted class sizes.
We understand that this has raised concerns, and I want to assure you that we are actively monitoring enrollment and planning staffing adjustments based on projected final counts. The last week of callbacks will occur next week, and we anticipate continued enrollment changes throughout September. Final student counts — which determine funding and staffing levels — will be confirmed at the end of the month.
I will continue to provide weekly updates and will share more detailed information at our upcoming School Council Meeting on September 25. Once final numbers are confirmed, we will communicate any staffing and class configuration changes with families, students, and staff. (For morning information on the School Council Meeting, please see our Events Calendar.
Thank you for your patience, understanding, and partnership as we navigate the start of this school year. If you have questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me through the main office to book an appointment.
We look forward to a successful year ahead — together.
Warm regards,
Marina Clark
