Holiday Band Concert
Amazing job to all the grade 7-9 band students for their performance at the winter concert on Thursday. They worked hard to learn all their songs, and they put on a wonderful show for friends and family. It was great to see how much progress the students have made so far on their instruments. Our Nickle community greatly appreciated their efforts to spread some holiday cheer through music!
Grade 8 Offsite Trip to Vertigo Theatre
On Wednesday, December 10th, our grade 8 students went to the Vertigo Theatre in downtown Calgary to watch a performance of Peril in the Alps. The performance was fast-paced and full of twists and turns. The students got to see six actors represent over 30 characters, as well as costume and scene changes that happened before their eyes. All in all, the grade 8s had a wonderful trip, and they were great representatives of Nickle School. A big thank you to our parent volunteers.
Athletics - Volleyball
The volleyball season is quickly approaching and it is very exciting to see the interest that has been expressed by our students already. We have sign up sheets outside of the phys ed office for anyone who is interested in trying out for volleyball the first week of January when we come back from the winter break. If students don’t sign up for tryouts they are still welcome to come and tryout for the team, signing up prior to tryouts allows us to get an idea of how many students we will have at tryouts. This allows us to develop a tryout specifically structured to the number of athletes we will have as well as having sheets prepared for evaluations. We currently have 56 girls and 43 boys signed up for tryouts.
The first tryout will be for the senior girls on Monday, January 5th after school at 2:45pm and will run until 4:30pm, followed by a second tryout Tuesday morning, January 6th at 7:00am. The senior boys will have their first tryout Tuesday, January 6th afterschool at 2:45pm with a second tryout Wednesday, January 7th at 7:00am. If additional tryouts are needed they will be scheduled for the following days. The senior teams which consist of grade 8 and 9 will have their tryouts on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, as any grade 8 students who don’t make the senior team will have the opportunity to tryout for the junior team. Grade 6 and 7 are only eligible to tryout for the junior teams.
The week leading up to the break we will host open gym for volleyball after school for grade 8 and 9 Monday and Wednesday and grade 6 and 7 Tuesday and Thursday.
